Carlos Joel Atarma
Carlos Joel graduated from high school and Victor's Vision in 2017 in Victor's Vision's inaugural class., after joining the program in 2012 when he was just 10 years old. While at Victor's Vision, he lived with his grandmother and younger sister. Carlos Joel's grandmother studied until 6th grade and she doesn’t work now - he likes living with his grandmother and feels his support system in Chulucanas, where he can also focus on his academics. He has some aunts and his mom who live in Lima and they send money to help support his family in Chulucanas.
Nearing his high school graduation in 2017, Carlos told us: "I’m really happy with the last 6 years in Victor’s Vision. I’ve learned things here that help me in school, but also help me in my daily life. Things like how to show respect and value others around me, that’s been very important. My first goal is to finish secondary school with the best grades possible. I want to study civil engineering because it’s a math-heavy career and I really love that. I also know that I can do a lot of different things with this one degree. I want to go to UNP in Piura, because my teachers have told me that it’s one of the best universities. This would be my first goal. If I need to, I could also do another year of studying in Lima and then go to university there. The last thing I want to say is that I’m grateful to have been a part of this. I’ve met a lot of really good people and I’ve learned so much here. "
Carlos achieved his high school graduation along with Victor's Vision's inaugural class in December 2017. After graduation he moved to Lima, and in 2020 he enrolled in the Instituto José Pardo in Lima and is currently studying civil construction.
