Carlos Joel Sullon
Carlos joined Victor's Vision in 2011 when he was just 9-years-old and was one of the first students in the program. He lives with his mom, dad and two older sisters. His oldest sister studied pharmacy at technical school and the younger sister finished secondary, but his family is just waiting to have more money before she can continue her studies.
In 2017, Carlos told us: "I know I want to go to university and it’s important to me that I have a career that I love. My family has taught me that it’s important to do something that I care about. I am currently stuck between civil engineering or architecture. I’m leaning toward engineering it’s even more math and that’s my favorite subject. I just understand math well, I like the formulas and it makes sense to me. I feel mostly ready but I know I need more complex courses to really be ready. Victor’s Vision has really helped me a lot because here I get the academic support and the psychological support. I feel like I am a more prepared person because of this. I want to go to UPAO (in Piura) but it’s very expensive. I need to really prepare so I can get the scholarships which will be very difficult. I think I want to live here in Chulucanas, but I would also live with my friends there. I think the money is going to be the hardest thing about university. I think this is a great program because it gives us a chance to be someone. It helps people who do not have very many resources achieve the same things that even people with lots of resources are able to achieve. That’s really important."
Carlos achieved his high school graduation along with Victor's Vision's inaugural class in December 2017. After hard work and preparation, he was admitted to and enrolled in university in February 2019. He is studying environmental engineering at La Universidad Católica de Chulucanas. He says he feels finally relaxed and very confident to begin his studies.
