Welcome to Victor's Vision
In the summer of 2009, Emily spent a week volunteering at the Albergue, a shelter for abandoned youth, in Chulucanas, Peru. There, she met Victor, a ten-year-old boy with a magnetic smile, endless energy and a thirst for knowledge. Throughout the week, Emily and Victor spent a lot of time together. He helped her with her Spanish, she taught him English and answered his many questions about the United States. They took silly pictures together and went on ice cream runs in the afternoons. On her last day, Emily asked Victor what he wanted to be when he grew up. Unlike students she’d met in the States who dreamed of being policemen, astronauts or actors, Victor simply replied that he had no future. He was poor, and there was no point in dreaming of anything different for his adult life.
At the end of the summer, Emily made her way back to the States. Over the next few months, she thought of Victor often and felt frustrated because she knew he was right. Though she saw so much of herself in him, because he’d been born into a completely different set of circumstances than her, he had no future. So, in 2010, Emily decided to do something about it.
Victor’s Vision is designed to serve children like Victor. Through Victor’s Vision’s after-school programming, impoverished primary and secondary students receive the support and resources necessary to dream and pursue their dreams through education.

“Since joining the program, my Victor’s Vision students have risen to the top of their class. They always want to be the ones to participate in class and they are overall willing to work much harder than the other students.”
