Jhair
Jhair joined Victor's Vision in 2017 when he was 12-years-old. He lives with his mom, dad, baby sister and younger brother. Jhair's dad studied until 4th grade and his mom studied until 4th grade as well. His father works in construction and his mom takes care of the home.
Jhair says the program is very important to his parent because "they want me to learn and become something in life." His favorite class is English & Language Arts because he loves reading and how to best communicate and share his ideas with his peers. He thinks Victor's Vision is a good program because of it's good teachers, who always help with homework - when he doesn't understand something, he can always count on his teachers to explain things. For the 2019 school-year, Jhair was elected by the Victor's Vision students as the new Mayor of Victor's Vision, the leading role for the program's student council.
In terms of his studies, in 2017 Jhair explained: "I want to go to university one day because that will help me reach my goals one day. I don’t know what I want to study but I’m thinking maybe medicine to be a doctor or dentist. I like looking at my siblings’ teeth and I get worried when they have cavities or things like that." One thing we love about Victor's Vision is watching our students' dreams change. One year later, we asked Jhair what he wanted to study and he told us, "I am deciding between studying business administration and tourism."
As Jhair took over as the new Mayor of Victor's Vision in 2018, he reflected on entering his last year of secondary school: "I feel two ways about only having one year left of secondary school. On one side, I am nervous about my path and continuing this next part of my studies. On the other, I am very proud of what I have done and my parents are proud that I have accomplished this goal. They want the same thing for my siblings. They are very proud of what I have accomplished already, but they will be even more proud when I go to university and graduate."
Jhair successfully graduated from secondary school and Victor's Vision in December 2019. In March 2020, he was successfully admitted to and enrolled in La Universidad Cesar Vallejo to study Hotel Administration and Tourism and began virtual classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
