Yakori
Yakori joined Victor's Vision in 2011 when she was 9-years-old and was one of the first students in the program. She lives with her mother, father, and two brothers (one older and one younger). Her older brother works for the bus company that goes between Chulucanas and Piura. He finished secondary school and her parents did as well. Her dad works in Piura in construction, and her mom is at home.
Nearing her graduation in 2017, Yakori told Victor's Vision: "I want to be a pediatrician because I really want to work with kids. I am really interested in watching them grow, helping them stay healthy and diagnosing when they are sick. I want to go to university next year. The school I really want to go to (UNP) only takes a few medical majors, so I’m worried I won’t get in. There’s another school in Piura that might be easier to get into so I might go there instead.
I know it’s going to be really hard because the entrance exam is going to be really hard. It’s going to be the hardest one because I want to study medicine. I do think Victor’s Vision has prepared me for university though because our teachers are always giving us the hardest work they can. I know there’s a lot more I need to learn because there’s going to be a lot on the entrance exam. If I get to choose, I would choose to live in Chulucanas, but go to school in Piura. I don’t know if I’m ready to live on my own yet. Maybe I would get to live with my friends, though. That might be easier."
Yakori graduated from high school and Victor's Vision in December 2017 with Victor's Vision's inaugural class. In April 2018, she became one of the first Victor's Vision students to be admitted to university. Yakori is enrolled at La Universidad Católica in Chulucanas and is studying Nutrition.
